Day One Bielefeld

Woke up ready to explorer Bielefeld, we took a 45 minute walk to a local bakery to get breakfast. We had to travel 4400 miles to find, wait for it, a buckeye tree.

We thought breakfast would just be pastry, wrong. This was the wonderful spread.

After a trip to the grocery store for some supplies, we had a wonderful snack of potato pancakes and a great local Pilsner.

We took a break to explore our host’s wonderful property.

Walter, Billy’s dad, wanted us to see the farm that he grew up on so it was off on an hour walk to get to the farm.

Walter has turned part of the farm into this wonderful pond area with some amazing koi and geese. Oh, and of course there was wine.

Home for a quick break before dinner. The restaurant was a very old regional restaurant and the food was phenomenal. Sorry, I’m still trying to get into pictures mode so we had eaten some of it before I took the picture.

Billy took me thru the wine cellar to see if I could find anything special for an after dinner bottle. After a couple of duds, we found this gem. The great part is that we all had gone to this winery last year in Tuscany.

A little digestif and it was off to bed.
